AP source: ACC presidents vote to add Louisville
A person familiar with the situation says that the Atlantic Coast Conference's presidents and chancellors have voted unanimously to add Louisville as the replacement for Maryland.
The person says ACC leaders also considered Connecticut and Cincinnati over the past week before choosing to add the Cardinals from the Big East. The person spoke to The Associated Press Wednesday morning on condition of anonymity because the ACC has not publicly discussed future expansion plans.
The person says the vote came during a conference call of ACC presidents and chancellors.
Maryland announced last week it would join the Big Ten in 2014.

CyanogenMod 10.1 nightlies now available for Nexus 4
At this point in time, ownership of Google's much sought-after Nexus 4 is still the pride of few, with most eager users stuck in delivery and ordering limbo. But for those of you who do lay claim to that unassuming slab of LG design, CyanogenMod's ready and willing to share some nightly perks. Released as a response to unofficial third party ROMs, experimental (read: unstable) builds of CM10.1 (built upon Android 4.2) are now available on the outfit's site. For now, these nightlies will be Nexus 4-only, but there are plans to open'em up to Nexus 10 owners soon. There's no word on when that final, polished 10.1 build will be ready for all Android devices, so for now, the keys to CM10.1 belong to a small group of privileged folks.

Las Vegas home sales pick up in October | Boston Homes Prime ...
Home sales in the Las Vegas-Paradise metro area increased in October, despite a historic decline in the month.
According to DataQuick, 4,570 new and resale homes and condos were closed in October, up 11.7 percent from the previous month and down 0.7 percent from a year ago. Since 1994, sales have declined an average of 1.7 percent between September and October.
Additionally, the median price for new and resale homes and condos was $137,000, a 19.2 percent year-over-year gain. However, this figure was unchanged from the previous month. Before April of 2012, the median price had declined for 18 consecutive months in Clark County.
Although the real estate market typically sees a seasonal slowdown at this year, home sales figures have remained strong as a result of record low mortgage rates. According to Freddie Mac's most recent Primary Mortgage Market Survey, both 15- and 30-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged new lows in the week ending November 21. Low rates have helped make home buying affordable to many people who have been on the fence.

Egypt's president stands by his decrees
CAIRO (AP) ? Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi struck an uncompromising stand Monday over his seizure of near absolute powers, refusing in a meeting with top judicial authorities to rescind a package of constitutional amendments that placed his edicts above oversight by the courts.
Morsi's supporters, meanwhile, canceled a massive rally planned for Tuesday to compete with a demonstration by his opponents, citing the need to "defuse tension" at a time when anger over the president's moves is mounting, according to a spokesman for the president's Muslim Brotherhood.
The opposition rally was going ahead as scheduled at Cairo's Tahrir square, birthplace of the uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak's regime nearly two years ago.
The meeting between Morsi and members of the Supreme Judiciary Council was a bid to resolve a four-day crisis that has plunged the country into a new round of turmoil, with clashes between the two sides that have left one protester dead and hundreds wounded.
Morsi, according to a presidential statement, told the judges that while the constitutional declaration he announced Thursday grants him immunity from any oversight, he intended to restrict that to what it described as "sovereignty issues."
The vaguely worded statement did not define those issues, but they were widely interpreted to cover declaration of war, imposition of martial law, breaking diplomatic relations with a foreign nation or dismissing a Cabinet.
The statement did not touch on the protection from oversight Morsi has extended to two bodies dominated by his Brotherhood and other Islamists: The 100-member panel tasked with drafting a new constitution and parliament's mostly toothless lower chamber, or the Shura council.
The Shura Council does not have lawmaking authorities but, in the absence of the more powerful lower chamber, the People's Assembly, it is the only popularly elected body where the Brotherhood and other Islamists have a majority. The People's Assembly was dissolved by a court ruling in June.
The judiciary has pushed back, calling the decrees a power grab and an "assault" on the branch's independence. Judges and prosecutors stayed away from many courts in Cairo and elsewhere on Sunday and Monday.
A spokesman, Yasser Ali, said Morsi told the judges that he acted within his rights as the nation's sole source of legislation, assuring them that the decrees were temporary and did not in any way infringe on the judiciary.
Two prominent rights lawyers ? Gamal Eid and Ahmed Ragheb ? dismissed Ali's remarks.
Eid said they were designed to keep "Morsi above the law," while Ragheb said they amounted to "playing with words."
"This is not what Egyptians are objecting to and protesting about," Ragheb said. "If the president wanted to resolve the crisis, there should be an amendment to his constitutional declaration."
In Washington, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke Monday by telephone with Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Kamel Amr to "register American concerns about Egypt's political situation," according to spokeswoman Victoria Nuland.
Clinton stressed that the U.S. wanted to "see the constitutional process move forward in a way that does not overly concentrate power in one set of hands, that ensures that rule of law, checks and balances, protection of the rights of all groups in Egypt are upheld," Nuland said.
Morsi's aides have repeatedly emphasized that the president has no intention of amending his decrees, meaning the near absolute powers they give him will stand. Morsi also issued a law to "protect the revolution" that rights activists maintain is effectively a declaration of emergency laws designed to combat poorly defined threats to the nation or to public order.
Opposition activists have denounced Morsi's decrees as a blatant power grab, and refused to enter a dialogue with the president before the edicts are rescinded.
Morsi says he wants to retain the new powers until the new constitution is adopted in a nationwide referendum and parliamentary elections are held, a time line that stretches to the middle of next year.
Many members of the judiciary were appointed under Mubarak, drawing allegations, even by some of Morsi's critics, that they are trying to perpetuate the regime's corrupt practices. But opponents are angry that the decrees leave Morsi without any check on his power.
Morsi, who became Egypt's first freely elected president in June, was quoted by Ali as telling his prime minister and security chiefs earlier Monday that his decrees were designed to "end the transitional period as soon as possible."
The dispute is the latest crisis to roil the Arab world's most populous nation, which has faced mass protests, a rise in crime and economic woes since the initial euphoria following the popular uprising that ousted Mubarak after nearly 30 years of autocratic rule.
Morsi's decrees were motivated in part by a court ruling in June that dissolved parliament's more powerful lower chamber, the People's Assembly, which was dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood and ultraconservative Islamists.
The verdict meant that legislative authority first fell in the hands of the then-ruling military, but Morsi grabbed it in August after he ordered the retirement of the army's two top generals.
Morsi's decrees saved the constitutional panel and the upper chamber from a fate similar to that of the People's Assembly because several courts looking into the legal basis of their creation were scheduled to issue verdicts to disband them.
Secular and Christian politicians have withdrawn from the 100-seat panel tasked with drafting the charter to protest what they call the hijacking of the process by Morsi's Islamist allies. They fear the Islamists will produce a draft that infringes on the rights of liberals, women and the minority Christians.
The dispute over the decrees has taken a toll on the nation's already ailing economy. Egypt's benchmark stock index dropped more than 9.5 percentage points on Sunday, the first day of trading since Morsi's announcement. It fell again Monday during early trading but recovered to close up 2.6 percentage points.
It has also played out in street protests across the country.
Thousands gathered in Damanhoor for the funeral procession of 15-year-old Islam Abdel-Maksoud, who was killed Sunday when a group of anti-Morsi protesters tried to storm the local offices of the political arm of the Brotherhood, Egypt's most powerful political group.
The Health Ministry said 444 people have been wounded nationwide, including 49 who remain hospitalized, since the clashes erupted on Friday, according to a statement carried by the official news agency MENA.
Morsi's office said that he had ordered the country's top prosecutor to investigate the teenager's death, along with that of another young man shot in Cairo last week during demonstrations to mark the anniversary of deadly protests last year that called for an end to the then-ruling military.
Up to 10,000 people marched through Tahrir Square for the funeral procession of 16-year-old Gaber Salah, who died Sunday of head wounds suffered in clashes with police. Salah was a member of April 6, one of the key rights groups behind the anti-Mubarak uprising, and a founder of a Facebook group called "Against the Muslim Brotherhood."

Companies looking to purchase Georgia commercial real estate properties may be able to receive financing more easily, as local banks recently showed heightened interest in lending, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The economy showed some improvement in the past several months, and employment may increase in the near future. These market aspects encouraged more to get involved again, the news source explained. Many financial institutions waited during economic recovery because of the significant losses during the recession.
"A year ago, you would have never heard me say 'I can't wait to get back into the CRE business,'" Kessel Stelling, chairman and CEO of Synovus Financial, told the news source "But we think in our markets there are some very strong opportunities for very well underwritten ? deals there."
While many cautioned that the current market is not yet near the peak levels before the recession, progress exists, the news source added. One aspect of the recovery that helped encourage lending applications from companies was the continued low interest rates, as more are confident in buying property.

Mississippi Childhood Obesity Rate Slowly Improving Your Health ...

The obesity rate for Mississippi?s children has stabilized, but the same cannot be said of adults. A recent study shows that by 2030, 67 percent of Mississippi?s adults are projected to be obese.
These projections released in September by Trust for America?s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation would indicate a significant increase from Mississippi?s current 35 percent obesity rate, expecting the state to hold its title as ?the fattest state in the nation for at least two more decades,? according to an article printed in a September issue of Sun Herald written by AP Medical Writer Mike Stobbe.
Recent data collected from Child and Youth Prevalence of Obesity Surveys, however, shows childhood obesity in Mississippi has remained level since 2005.
?We are making some progress. We haven?t taken a downturn, but we also haven?t got any better,? state health officer Mary Currier said. ?Don?t expect it to be a quick change.?
A 2011 CAYPOS study revealed the 43.9 percent rate in 2005 of obesity and overweight children grades kindergarten through 12 to have gone down to 40.9 percent. The decrease, however, is not considered ?statistically significant.?
On the other hand, the rate of obese and overweight white students decreased from 40.6 to 34.8 percent. In addition, the elementary student rate went down to 37.3 percent in 2011 from 43 percent in 2005.
The study, published in the Journal of the Mississippi State Medical Association, states the prevalence of combined obese and overweight public school students ?no longer appears to be increasing,? information they refer to as ?encouraging news for the state.?
The leveling off of these statistics may be the result of countless school programs and campaign efforts to encourage healthier, more active lifestyles in students.
One of these programs, Project Fit America, recently awarded exercise equipment to Gautier Middle School and also provided staff-led cardiovascular health and lifetime fitness education programs to the students.
?This program is one of many efforts they are involved in,? said Executive Director Sheila Grogan of Blue Cross & Blue Shield Mississippi Foundation, which oversees Project Fit and other programs throughout the state, ?The unique thing about our foundation is we only fund programs without measurable outcomes that can be identified such as a decrease in BMI over time or improvements in physical fitness tests.?
Currier said there are many things happening to help the health situation, but many things still to be done.
With the Healthy Schools Act enacted in 2007, many schools have stopped frying foods and incorporated healthier options in vending machines. Currier said there also has been an increase in farmers markets and having access to locally grown, unprocessed foods which avoid the excess fats, sugars and salts.
?The main thing is we have to change our eating habits,? Currier said. ?We find any occasion or event and celebrate it with food; We bring a ham, a cake. We need to change the culture.?

Since Monday is an important day to feel inspired, I want to share this gorgeous "real life home" tour with you today. ?I simply cannot wait another moment to do so! ?I discovered Annalise Neil's beautiful, San Diego home via the lovely Jora of Domestic Reflections--one of my favorite blogs. ?And thank goodness I did, because Annie's eclectic home exudes so much love, warmth and depth, that it simply cannot be contained. ?
This 1946 bungalow, affectionately referred to as "Neilhaus", is situated on a quiet, dead-end street above a tiny canyon that is home to gray foxes, possums and other small wildlife.??Marking the beautiful home are two, wind-swept juniper trees, which you can see a portion of above.??It truly sounds like an ideal location to raise a family, which is just what this?printmaker?and freelance writer is doing!??In fact, as your eyes move through this home tour, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Annalise?s original etchings, prints, copper plates and drawings dotting the photographs (which were also snapped by Annie).
For those of you just tuning in,?this original series?showcases living spaces decorated by people who are not formally-trained interior designers; people who mix new finds with antiques and secondhand pieces from?Craigslist?(or the like). People who have figured out, on their own, what looks and feels good in their living space, be it a free-standing home, an apartment, or in one particular case,?a tower?:)
Her light-filled living room, populated by what Annalise refers to as a ?motley assortment of vintage mid-mod, militaria and scores from Anthropologie sample sales? is the room that first caught my eye.? Having moved around several times, Annie?s home is the perfect example of bringing together little treasures from both near and far. ?And, as someone who prefers large, open windows sans treatments, I really appreciate the open feeling these windows create.
Like me, Annie procured her antique dining table on Craigslist?a fabulous source if you prefer a mix `n? match look.? Isn?t it well-paired with those dramatic, but minimal chairs?? And the perfectly arranged wall of art?? I love the idea of enjoying a simple meal with friends around this table.? It?s such an inspiring setting.
The nursery at Neilhaus is home to Annie?s little 8-month-old, Baby O.? The walls are adorned with vintage ephemera, including a favorite print by Arthur Rackham.? Annalise was lucky enough to discover this ?Alice in Wonderland? print when helping her mother clean out a closet.? A few other special details in the nursery include the crewelwork bouquet on the rocking chair, the blessing gown from Annie?s favorite antique store in Philadelphia, and the woodland imagery she created over the mirrored chest of drawers (also an Anthro sample).
Her 3-year-old son?s room is an ideal space for a toddler, but is decorated in a way that will easily transition her little man into a ?big boy?, with just a few minor changes.? I love the room to grow in this space!
When crafting a space for a child, there is such a temptation to buy everything new, (I know because I?ve been there before!).? But what I appreciate most about Annalise?s style is that she creates character by mixing antiques in with new pieces.? Special antiques in this room include the chest of drawers from ?a perfectly cluttered? thrift store in upstate New York and a vintage sardine advert found down the road. ?She purchased the mouse tapestry in China many years ago with the intention of hanging it in a future child?s room.? I love that.
The last bedroom to be featured in this particular home tour is that of Annalise and her husband.? Hanging front and center is an old lithograph they discovered together in the basement of their old row house in Philadelphia years ago (such a great story!).? Flanking the antique lithograph are two of Annie?s own lithographs?one of her husband and one of herself.
The beautiful backyard is not only home to the small animals that venture out of the canyon, but to persimmon, pomegranate, peach, lemon and fig trees.? Sounds pretty heavenly, doesn?t it??? Zettel edges teammate Schild to win slalom race
ASPEN, Colo. (AP) ? Kathrin Zettel of Austria held off teammate and training partner Marlies Schild with a blazing final run to win a World Cup slalom Sunday.
Zettel finished in a combined time of 1 minute, 42.46 seconds to edge Schild by 0.67 seconds. Tina Maze of Slovenia was third in a race Lindsey Vonn skipped as she recovers from an intestinal illness.
Teenager Mikaela Shiffrin of the U.S. was in the lead for a few skiers before winding up seventh. Shiffrin was third at the last slalom event in Levi, Finland, a competition won by Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany.
Hoefl-Riesch was questionable for this race after bruising her left arm when she crashed Saturday. She recovered enough to not only race Sunday, but race well, taking fourth.

Indian gay rights parade demands greater tolerance
NEW DELHI (AP) ? Hundreds of gay rights activists marched through New Delhi on Sunday to demand that they be allowed to lead lives of dignity in India's deeply conservative society.
Dozens of demonstrators carried a nearly 15-meter (50-foot) -long, rainbow-colored banner and waved placards demanding that the government extend the scope of anti-discrimination laws to schools, workplaces and public and private spaces.
Activists said that three years after the Delhi High Court made changes in India's colonial-era law that made gay sex a crime, homosexuals are still not socially accepted in India.

"We are demanding that all people be allowed to exercise their right to live their lives with dignity and freedom, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation," said a statement issued by rights groups at the parade.
Kumar said people's attitudes were gradually beginning to change and there was greater understanding among families in urban areas as television campaigns and gay parade marches caught on. But the pace of change is slow, he said.
In some big cities, homosexuality is slowly gaining acceptance, and a few high-profile Bollywood films have dealt with gay issues.
Still, many marchers Sunday covered their faces with scarves or wore masks because they have not told their friends and families about their sexuality.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) ? South Korean rapper PSY's "Gangnam Style" has become YouTube's most viewed video of all time.
YouTube says in a posting on its Trends blog that "Gangnam Style" had been viewed 805 million times as of Saturday afternoon, surpassing Justin Bieber's "Baby," which has had 803 million views.
The blog says the "velocity of popularity for PSY's outlandish video is unprecedented."
PSY's video featuring his horse-riding dance was posted on YouTube in July, while "Baby" was uploaded in February 2010.

Brazil fires national team coach Menezes

SAO PAULO (AP) -The Brazilian football federation says discussions to select the new Brazil coach will take place between Christmas and the New Year, with the announcement expected early in January.
The federation needs to find a new coach after firing Mano Menezes on Friday, saying it was not pleased with his methods.
"A meeting scheduled for after Christmas will determine the new coach," federation director Andres Sanchez said. "The coach needs to be in place by January."
Brazil will host next year's Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup.
World Cup winning coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is the fan favorite, but Sanchez said other renowned names in Brazil could also be called on, including Muricy Ramalho, Vanderlei Luxemburgo, Abel Braga and Tite.
"All of them may be selected," Sanchez said, dismissing the possibility of hiring an inexperienced coach like Dunga, who was picked for the national team in 2006 despite lacking any coaching experience.
Brazilian media said Saturday that Pep Guardiola is also a candidate and the Lance sports daily published an interview with the coach saying he would accept the job with Brazil.
Sanchez, the top director in charge of the national team, said he would be against hiring a foreign coach.
"Brazil has many great coaches today, it makes no sense to go looking for someone abroad," he said.
The director didn't dismiss the possibility that it could happen, though, as he was also against the firing of Menezes but couldn't stop it.
Sanchez said he didn't want to dismiss Menezes after the coach had already established his methods, but federation President Jose Maria Marin and other directors thought it would be better to move in a new direction and find someone new.
Menezes had 21 victories, six losses and six draws since taking over the national team after the 2010 World Cup. Brazil had been winning recently, but the coach was marked by disappointing results against traditional rivals such as Germany, France, Argentina and the Netherlands.
He also failed to win the Copa America and failed to win Olympic gold, which is the only football trophy the five-time world champions are yet to win.
"I'd like to thank everyone who has worked with me in this project, especially the players and everyone else who believed in our work," Menezes said on Twitter. "I wish the national team a lot of success fulfilling the dream of our fans to win the sixth world title in 2014."
Scolari, who led Brazil to the 2002 World Cup title, has been touted as the front-runner to replace Menezes.
The former Portugal and Chelsea coach is without a job since leaving struggling Palmeiras, which was eventually relegated to the second division in the Brazilian league earlier this month.
The coach never ruled out returning to the national team and recently turned down offers to coach Brazilian clubs Gremio and Cruzeiro and the Russian national team.
