Hello there everyone, I have this piece of code here, and whenever I try to compile it, I get the error "cannot find symbol - method replaceAll(java.lang.String,java.lang.String). I am not very good at Java and I can't seem to figure out why it won't work,
public static ArrayList<String> convertFileLinesToSentences(ArrayList<String> filelines) { ArrayList<String> sentenceWithoutWhitespace = new ArrayList<String>(); sentenceWithoutWhitespace = filelines.replaceAll("\\s",""); return sentenceWithoutWhitespace; }
In my previous method just before this one, I also use the .replaceAll method and there are no troubles with it, any and all help is appreciated, thank you.

filelines has the type ArrayList which doesn't have a replaceAll method
Maybe you wanted to enumerate the ArrayList and call replaceAll on each individual String?

So the replaceAll method can only be used on strings? In that case, I guess I better go read up on enumerating =) Thanks, I couldn't continue because it wouldn't work.
