Boy battling cancer rocks out with Pantera singer

Music

When 13-year-old Peyton Arens, who is battling a rare form of terminal cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma, asked to have a particular dream fulfilled by the Make-A-Wish foundation, it wasn't your typical "I want to go to Disneyland" type request.?

The young man is a budding rock guitarist who idolizes Pantera singer Phil Anselmo, and just wanted to play with the heavy metal guitarist.?

And so it was: Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, on July 31 Arens took the stage at Philip H. Hanselmo & The Illegals' national tour kick-off show in Tulsa, Okla. He played "Walk," from Pantera's 1992 album "Vulgar Display of Power," and according to Anselmo's blog, the kid "had a blast tearing it up."?

Check out the performance, and if you want to learn more about Arens, here's a link to his web page.?

The Gift of Support: Church group answers call to aid cancer patient

alt
Jessica Newsome is pictured?with her husband, Jason, and their two little girls, Savannah and Ella.

As Jessica Newsome battles for her life, The Grove rallies around her to help in any way possible. The Grove is Newnan First United Methodist Church's aid committee for medical crises and longterm illness, which started soon after Newsome was diagnosed in March with kidney cancer while serving as the church's children's minister.

Newsome suffered from exhaustion almost immediately after taking the job in July 2012. She fought off symptoms of fatigue for months until her husband, Jason, finally put her in a car and drove her to the emergency room.

The news was heartbreaking. Jessica had stage 4 renal cell cancer.

Word of Jessica's illness shook the church and spurred a group effort in coordinating the massive outpouring of assistance church and community members wished to send the Newsomes' way. The Grove immediately became the facilitator for funds and assistance to reach the church families in need, just like the Newsomes.

This past month, The Grove renovated the Newsomes' bathroom to make it wheelchair accessible. The group also bought the family a recliner to make visitors more comfortable.

One of Newsome's wishes was to attend a Braves game. When she got there, word of her illness spread all the way to pitcher Tim Hudson and his wife. His Hudson Family Foundation has since provided a grant to the Newsome family, with Hudson also donating autographed items to The Grove, which will be used to raise money for the family.

Those who know Newsome find her amazingly strong-spirited, giving and an overachiever. Newsome, who recently turned 30, continues to battle advanced stages of cancer with the support of her husband and her two little girls, along with friends and family.

'Jessica is the true definition of a mother,' says Sarah Dewberry, who helped start The Grove and has been friends with Jessica since college.

'She is selfless, caring, warm and nurturing to everyone she meets. She has always shown an interest in the people around her, and even through her personal struggles, she finds ways to minister to those she cares about. The world should wish to have her as a friend.'

The family started a blog titled getbetterjess.blogspot.com in order to update loved ones and concerned community members on Newsome's journey. The blog includes posts from Newsome. The pages are filled with loving thoughts and family photographs.

Along with supporting Jessica, The Grove is assisting about a dozen other families dealing with medical crises.

If a family needs a wheelchair ramp, online meal calendar, or monetary support, The Grove always donates a planted seedling tree as a symbol of its love and support. For Kelley Welden, another one of The Grove's founders, the ministry is a blessing for those involved.

'It is a joy to work with other women who truly care about our church members. The people that we have helped have been so appreciative, whether it's been meals, prayer shawls or the dogwood trees. We are just happy to be able to do our part.'

Since The Grove's conception, community support has been overwhelming for Jessica and her family as they continue to battle her illness - and pray.

It's amazing what the love and care of a community accomplish when people are pulled together for a common cause. It's just a shame it takes the worst battles to realize the depths of human compassion.

To request assistance or make a donation to The Grove call 770-2537400 or email churchoffice@newnanfumc. org.

Union leaders urge governors to support 'Made in America' legislation

With the sound of jackhammers in the distance, union activists urged the nation's governors to support the creation of jobs in this country, and back "Made in America" legislation.

Phil Neuenfeldt, president of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO, told supporters gathered at Zeidler Union Square Park that it was time for a "jobs dialog" with governors. He implored governors to put aside partisan politics "and think about the average worker."

"Let's keep jobs here in Wisconsin and here in America," Neuenfeldt said.

Heath Verbockel, a member of the United Steelworkers and a paper worker for Appleton Coated, said he had seen mills close in Wisconsin. "Six hundred jobs went out the door" at one plant, he said.

Those jobs can endure in Wisconsin, he said, if Gov. Scott Walker directed state government to buy only paper products made in the state.

"If we make it here, let's buy it here," Verbockel said.

Tom Evenson, a Walker spokesman, did not directly address the paper issue, but issued this statement in response.

"Gov. Walker's number one goal is helping the private sector create Wisconsin jobs. After losing nearly 134,000 jobs in the four years before Gov. Walker took office, Wisconsin has gained over 62,000 private-sector jobs in the first two years of his term. This is the best two-year job gains of any governor in over a decade. We're heading in the right direction."

A number of unions were represented at the rally, held just blocks from the Wisconsin Center where the National Governors Association is meeting this weekend. Unions included the United Steelworkers, AFSCME, the Milwaukee Teachers Education Assocation, the United Food and Commercial Workers, the United Auto Workers, Wisconsin Building and Trades, and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Meghan McKeefry, a field coordinator with the Alliance for American Manufacturing, said growth in the nation's manufacturing sector was vital to a stronger economy.

"American workers deserve a first shot at rebuilding America's infrastructure," she said.

The alliance, which tracks manufacturing jobs in Wisconsin and around the country, reports that 40,000 manufacturing jobs were lost in the state in the last decade.

Steve Breitlow, the business manager for Plumbers Local 75 of the Wisconsin Building and Trades, said rebuilding roads, highways and bridges were critical to long-term economic growth.

"We hope the NGA hears us loud and clear," Breitlow said.

At the rally, union organizers also sought signatures on petitions to Walker and other elected representatives. The petitions ask officials to support the right of all workers to have a union.

"Any attack on union members is a direct attack on the middle class families of Wisconsin who are already struggling to survive in this economy," the petition stated.

FDA links stomach bug in 2 states to Mexican farm

In this image provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a photomicrograph of a fresh stool sample, which had been prepared using a 10% formalin solution, and stained with modified acid-fast stain, reveals the presence of four Cyclospora cayetanensis oocysts in the field of view. Iowa and Nebraska health officials said Tuesday, July 30, 2013, that a prepackaged salad mix is the source of a cyclospora outbreak that sickened more than 178 people in both states. Cyclospora is a rare parasite that causes a lengthy gastrointestinal illness. (AP Photo/Centerd for Disease Control and Prevention)

(AP) ? The Food and Drug Administration says an outbreak of stomach illnesses in Iowa and Nebraska is linked to salad mix served at Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants in those states and supplied by a Mexican farm.

The outbreak of cyclospora infections has sickened more than 400 people in 16 states in all. The agency says it is working to determine whether the salad mix is the source of illnesses in the other 14 states.

"It is not yet clear whether the cases reported from other states are all part of the same outbreak," the agency said in a statement. "The investigation of increased cases of cyclosporiasis in other states continues."

Both Olive Garden and Red Lobster are owned by Orlando-based Darden Restaurants. In a statement, Darden spokesman Mike Bernstein said the FDA's announcement is "new information."

"Nothing we have seen prior to this announcement gave us any reason to be concerned about the products we've received from this supplier," Bernstein said.

The FDA said it traced illnesses from the restaurants in Nebraska and Iowa to Taylor Farms de Mexico, the Mexican branch of Salinas, Calif.-based Taylor Farms. The company, which provides produce to the food service industry, said its facility located about 180 miles north of Mexico City in San Miguel de Allende is the only one of its 12 sites to be connected to the cases.

In a statement on the company's website, Taylor Farms says the Mexican facility is "state of the art and has an exceptional food safety record." The statement said the company is working with FDA investigators who are looking at the facility and that the product is out of the food supply.

The FDA said it had audited the Mexican processing facility in 2001 and found "no notable issues." The agency said it would increase surveillance efforts for green leafy products imported from Mexico.

The most recent known illness in the two states linked to the infected salad was in Nebraska a month ago. The typical shelf life for a salad mix is up to 14 days.

There have been more recent illnesses in other states. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the most recent illness was July 23 but centers did not specify a location.

The agency said its investigation has not implicated any packaged salad sold in grocery stores.

Grams, Coleman back GOP U.S. Senate hopeful McFadden

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike McFadden is getting some major support from two big-name?former Minnesota politicians.

The Star Tribune reports ex-U.S. Sens. Rod Grams and Norm Coleman will serve as McFadden?s honorary co-chairs and serve as advisors as the political newcomer builds his team.

Congressional newspaper The Hill says the backing is a sign the GOP establishment is firmly behind McFadden as their choice to challenge U.S. Sen. Al Franken.

McFadden, a former executive at a Minneapolis financial management firm, has already raised $760,000 in his first few weeks in the race.

Republican state Rep.?Jim Abeler?of?Anoka is also running and Republican state Sen.?Julianne Ortman of Chanhassen is expected to announce a bid Saturday.

Tom Erickson, McFadden?s campaign manager, said the ex-Senators? experience winning statewide elections will help McFadden?s chances. The Associated Press noted Grams and Coleman each served a single Senate term and are the most recent Republicans to hold the office.

(MinnPost has a fun fact:?Coleman and Grams are?two of Minnesota?s eight living former senators, the most in the nation.)

The Star Tribune points out that the officeholders? experience losing elections might also prove beneficial. In 2000, Grams lost his seat to Mark Dayton and Coleman lost to Franken in 2008.

Franken is still a clear front-runner in the race, the Hill reports. The senator has raised nearly $4 million for his campaign this year.

NFL boss weighs in on Browns owner probe

BEREA, Ohio - The NFL is standing by Browns owner Jimmy Haslam.

With Haslam embroiled in a legal scandal involving his family-owned truck-stop business, Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed his confidence in Cleveland's owner and said the league has no plans to intervene or discipline him at this point.

Goodell visited Cleveland's training camp on Thursday to launch a program between the league and Pop Warner with USA Football's Heads Up Football Program. Following a clinic with young players, Goodell said he's satisfied with Haslam's handling of the federal investigation at Pilot Flying J, and said the league is proud to be associated with its newest owner.

"Jimmy Haslam is a man of great integrity," Goodell said. "We're proud to have him as an owner in the NFL and think he's going to be a great owner for the Cleveland Browns and their fans. He's as disappointed as anybody in what happened at Pilot J and he's working hard to fix it and correct those issues, both from a structural standpoint and to make amends."

Goodell added that the league has no plans to intervene at this time.

"I don't think it's a matter for us at this moment," Goodell said.

Haslam has been in the crosshairs of controversy since April 15, when the FBI and IRS raided Pilot Flying J's headquarters in Knoxville, Tenn., seizing documents and as part of a probe into wide-spread fraud at the company. Haslam has maintained he did not know about a program within his sales staff to cheat customers out of rebate and discount money. Seven employees have pleaded guilty to defrauding customers.

Goodell said Haslam assured him he knew nothing of the rebate scam.

"He's been very clear that he's had no knowledge of that and he's been clear publicly and clear with you all," Goodell said. "He doesn't need any pushing. This company means a lot to him and he's obviously not happy about what has happened and he's determined to fix it. Jimmy is more disappointed than anybody."

Pressed about what the league might do if Haslam were indicted, Goodell refused to presume anything.

"We're not going to play the hypothetical game," Goodell said. "Right now he's addressing the issues. We're confident he's going to deal with it properly. You're dealing with a bunch of hypotheticals. We're not going there."

Goodell said the league was thorough in its vetting of Haslam, who was a minority owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers before buying the Browns.

"This was a surprise to him and to his senior-level management," Goodell said. "From that standpoint, I don't think he was aware of it and I don't know any way we could have been aware of it. It was not disclosed to us."

Goodell has a well-earned reputation as being a tough disciplinarian with players. He promised to be equally firm with any owner who breaks the law.

"We actually hold ownership to a higher standard and management," he said. "I think we've proven that in what we've done. It's not just accused. As you know, in our policy, oftentimes we let the criminal process unfold because you need to do that to find out the real facts. Sometimes we don't have all the facts and we need to do that. What we look at is multiple offenders. As you know, that's a real focus for us."

Haslam and Goodell were not seen together on the field as the Browns concluded their first week of camp. Goodell spent time visiting with Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown, who has returned as an adviser with the team.

Earlier in the day, Goodell and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer conducted a football safety clinic for 500 moms of youth players in Columbus.

Although he was already in the league, Haslam underwent the same scrutiny as any owner, Goodell insisted.

"We go through the same process on any circumstance," Goodell said. "When you're going through a controlling ownership position, that's a big step up so we don't just pass that off. We do the same vetting process. Obviously he knows people in the league after being an owner, so there were certain aspects of that which were easier. But we didn't short-circuit anything."

Goodell is satisfied the investigation has not been a distraction to the Browns, who are undergoing another makeover with a new front office and coaching staff, However, Goodell did concede it's troubling one of the NFL's owners is part of federal probe.

"You never want to see this kind of thing happen, particularly to a partner in the league," Goodell said. "Obviously his partners care a great deal about him and as a partner they want to see him getting off to a good start. This is not what anybody intended, not anybody anticipated. But he's a man that I think everyone truly respects in the NFL."

Goodell said the Browns are in good hands with Haslam, whom he believes can restore the Browns to their former glory.

"Jimmy Haslam came into this with a mindset that he was going to do everything possible to get this franchise turned around in a positive direction and a team that this community will be proud of not just in any single year

but consistently and to create a winner," Goodell said. "And he's brought in great talent. He's brought in great people. He set the organization obviously in a different direction. I think that's all positive and good for the fans here and ultimately good for the NFL."

NOTES: Browns coach Rob Chudzinski opened his post-practice news conference by commenting on the Indians' eight-game winning streak. "Love it," he said. ... Browns WR Josh Gordon did some team drills after missing two days with tendinitis in his knee. ... Safety T.J. Ward sat out practice with a tight hamstring. ... WR David Nelson tweaked his knee while running a pass route and was kept out. He tore his ACL last season and had knee surgery in Buffalo. ... Browns DT Brian Sanford and rookie G Garrett Gilkey got into a fight during a one-on-one drill. ... Chudzinski said OLB Quentin Groves is "having a great camp." Groves signed with Cleveland as a free agent this winter from Arizona.

Fullscreen CEO George Strompolos on online video, monetization and the next Seth MacFarlane

By Lucas Shaw

NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - Fullscreen CEO George Strompolos knows more about YouTube than most of the people that work there. As an early architect of the gargantuan video site's partner program, he brought many of the largest and most popular networks onto YouTube, from Smosh to Machinima.

So it should come as no surprise that when Strompolos left Google, he built what now ranks as YouTube's second largest network in the United States, at least according to ComScore.

Fullscreen has never been as sexy as Maker Studios, home to numerous YouTube stars and even traditional celebrities like Snoop Dogg, or Machinima, a paragon of all things geek. Yet Fullscreen has become the network of the moment over the past few months and Strompolos, initially wary of press exposure, is ready to tell his story.

TheWrap talked with Strompolos about how his network became one of YouTube's largest, the challenges of making money overseas and when he'll find the next Seth MacFarlane.

As someone who brought a lot of networks and top talent to YouTube, what would you say is the state of the network business?

Creators today are expected to be their own media companies. That's just really hard to do. Most video creators spend as much time as possible creating video, and they need a third party to provide services in support.

It is the responsibility of networks to continue to reinvest. Any revenues we can generate as a network we reinvest into more sales, more financing of videos and more production staff.

Why are so many of those networks complaining about the money they are seeing?

It all comes down to monetizable views. YouTube and its partners are monetizing on viewership basis as well as many cable networks, but we have to restrict that monetization to the United States.

Often times creators will have tens of millions of views, but find that the vast majority is happening outside of the U.S. in emerging markets on mobile devices that can't be monetized yet.

Why is monetizing those views overseas so difficult? In the U.S. we're still in the process of helping convert TV dollars to digital media. If you look overseas, digital delivery is already a big thing. Monetization poses a bigger obstacle.

You may have a channel that has 100 million views. If 100 percent of those are from Kazakhstan, or even worse people from mobile phones in Kazakhstan - no network or even YouTube can solve that problem.

Now I understand YouTube's NewFront presentation about it becoming a global network.

While I'm a big proponent of the global format, the ideal format has 100 percent of views happening on a desktop or laptop in the United States on a Saturday.

What's Fullscreen's plan overseas?

We are making good inroads into advertising communities in Brazil, Russia and some other countries. Our goal is to continue to invest wisely and build a presence in those territories

You already have an office in Brazil, yes?

Brazil and Moscow today.

Why are those the first two?

We started to see an explosion in viewership in those territories. Japan is a good example. There are tons of brilliant creators in Japan - heavy internet users - but viewership is not as strong as I would like so we won't overcommit resources.

What does YouTube say?

YouTube is more active in supporting the talent in international territories that are slightly less developed. They know a lot of this begins with talent becoming famous and successful and having a good time.

They want to see the industry emerge in those territories and they alone cannot scale it. They want to see networks and financing - signs of maturity. They tend to be very helpful as far as entrance into those regions - not in a way that favors Fullscreen.

How close are you to seeing real money switch over to YouTube?

Online video used to be part of the experimental budget for a lot of brands and TV agencies - the bottom of the barrel budgets were allocated to online video.

Spending with Fullscreen or online video is no longer part of the experimental budget but the main budget. We're still nowhere near multimillion dollar upfront commitments, but we're part of the plan on a regular basis.

How has Fullscreen become the biggest network (excluding VEVO) on YouTube?

We've made a large investment in technology over the past two years, which has helped us scale the business. We've also used that technology to create a community of creators. We are able to support and add value to tens of thousands of creators around the world.

Some networks are built around one or two stars - huge networks. Are you doomed to fail unless you offer services?

We put talent and emerging creators in two buckets. There are the emerging ones, the one still honing who they are and how to make a living. Tools and services and things that are more scalable become very important and having a partner or manager is very important.

Once someone has "made it," they have other needs. They want to do bigger projects and want more representation, sponsorship deals and help negotiating big deals.

Are you wary about spending too much on production?

We have an interest in financing or co-producing content that is strategic for the company over the long term. We have no intention of becoming a facilities business - a studio for hire or a production team for hire. Becoming a factory for creators is not our future.

But you still want to own as many of your channels and videos as possible?

Yes. Fullscreen has a vested interest in incubating, owning and exploiting intellectual property.

The next Seth MacFarlane is not actually working in a Hollywood studio. That creator is working in a bedroom in Austin, Texas. Our goal is to help identify, incubate and profit with that creator.

Do you identify those people using technology? You just hired someone, Larry Shapiro, whose background is in identifying talent the more traditional, Hollywood way.

Data signals are incredibly important - creators accelerating in viewership or shares per view. We see these things pretty early on and they help us know at an early stage where to invest capital and time and resources. But we still have a staff of over 100 people who spend all their time geeking out on YouTube. There is room for gut feelings.

Are you interested in long-form content?

The vast majority of what we do is short-form, but there is room for long form online.

Given economics, short-form is just more attractive. It drives more sharing. An episode of 22 to 24 minutes can be very cool, but it's not built on sharing or marketing.

Are short-form videos and premium videos mutually exclusive?

No. You build subscribers, audience, affinity towards a brand or creator based on short-form because it allows for experimentation. Then you bring something special or of higher value to an audience on a quarterly basis - whether it's a tentpole films or a short-film series.

In the early days of Fullscreen we did some experimentation with Ryan Higa. He's notorious for sketches shot in his bedroom. We brought the audience a film called "Age of Secret Stuff." It was 44 minutes long and it was most successful piece of long-form content on YouTube at the time. At the end of the day, Ryan went back to short-form, but he delighted audiences with something out of the blue.

Digital to dethrone TV as king of home entertainment

Technology

Microsoft

Microsoft

Microsoft's Smart Glass app takes advantage of the fact that most users will have a smartphone or tablet handy while using the TV.

It's been a long time coming, but it looks like television, the reigning champ of home entertainment for generations, may finally be displaced by our smaller, more portable digital devices. A new study suggests the dethroning should occur this year.

According to tracking firm eMarketer's data, in 2013 adults in the U.S. will spend 5 hours and 9 minutes every day on average using digital media in some form ? be it apps, streaming video, games, or browsing the Web. They will also, meanwhile, engage on average with 4 hours and 31 minutes of TV.

It's second (and third) screens that contributed to digital's growth, the company says. Although time spent on desktops and laptops dropped slightly, people spent about an hour more on average doing non-voice things on their mobiles.

It makes sense: mobile phones are our constant companions, and every minute spent checking your Instagram feed, chatting on Facebook, or watching YouTube is one less you could be watching TV. And how many times during a boring show have you checked Twitter or played a quick level of "Cut the Rope"?

test

test

Of course, it's not a simple thing to collect or even define some of these figures, so eMarketer was careful to point out that other research companies reached different conclusions. For instance, it estimated that among all consumers, about 2 hours and 19 minutes of a person's media consumption time was online. But a Temkin Group study they cite puts the figure at 5 hours and 48 minutes. So take all these figures with a grain of salt.

That said, the trends shown are unmistakeable: People are watching the same amount of TV or slightly less, while their use of mobiles and online services is skyrocketing. Even if eMarketer's estimate that digital will overtake TV is premature, it's sure to happen soon ? or maybe it happened already.

Illinois governor signs law allowing medical marijuana

By Mary Wisniewski

CHICAGO (Reuters) - A law allowing marijuana to be used for medical purposes in Illinois was signed on Thursday by Governor Pat Quinn, making it the second most populous state in the country after California to permit medicinal use of the drug.

"Over the years, I've been moved by the brave patients and veterans who are fighting terrible illnesses," Quinn said. "They need and deserve pain relief."

The law, which takes effect January 1, allows patients diagnosed with one of 35 medical conditions such as cancer, Parkinson's or lupus to use marijuana as recommended by an Illinois licensed physician.

The four-year program, which supporters call the strictest in the nation, requires a doctor's written certification, registered patient photo identification cards and an electronic verification system.

The senate sponsor for the bill was Bill Haine, a downstate Democrat who is a former prosecutor. The bill passed the Illinois house and senate this past spring.

"We are ensuring only those suffering from the most serious diseases receive this treatment," said Haine. "This law takes additional steps to prevent fraud and abuse."

Nineteen other states plus the District of Columbia have effective medical marijuana laws, according to the Marijuana Policy Project, a non-profit Washington, D.C.-based group. The project does not count Maryland on the list because it only allows for a "very limited research program," according to spokesman Morgan Fox.

Under the Illinois law, patients would be limited to 2.5 ounces (70 grams) of marijuana every two weeks. The marijuana must be grown and distributed in Illinois, kept in a closed container and not used in public or in front of minors.

Jim Champion, a veteran afflicted with multiple sclerosis, was among those who spoke with Quinn while he was considering the bill, according to Quinn's office.

"I use medical cannabis because it's the most effective medicine in treating my muscle spasticity with few side effects," Champion said. "My wife shouldn't have to go to drug dealers for my medicine. Neither of us deserve to be criminals."

Those who use, grow or sell the drug must be fingerprinted and undergo background checks. Landlords and employers could ban its use on their property. Users suspected of driving under the influence face the loss of not only their driving privileges, but also their marijuana-use permits.

Under U.S. federal law, marijuana is considered an addictive substance and distribution is a federal offense. The administration of President Barack Obama has discouraged federal prosecutors from pursuing people who distribute marijuana for medical purposes under state laws.

BlackBerry Partners With Auto Makers to Advance Over-the-Air ...

Auto technology has come a long way since the Model-T, but in the same way early vehicles required mechanical tune-ups, today?s modern cars?with 30 to 100 computers?need software maintenance and optimization. Using the same technology it uses to keep the software in its smartphones updated, BlackBerry is now working with car manufacturers to update vehicle software via wireless networks, known as over-the-air (OTA) communication.

Auto makers around the world are eager to adopt OTA technology as it can truly transform the vehicle experience?enabling and simplifying the delivery of new, compelling features to their customers long after the initial sale. Software updates can refresh a vehicle with new features and services as they become available, keeping the car up to date with the latest upgrades and capabilities. Drivers will also save time as system updates are delivered seamlessly and securely without the need to schedule maintenance appointments. And vehicle owners are just as enthusiastic. Last year, a Gartner survey revealed that 40 percent of owners would ?definitely want to get? or were at least ?likely to get? the ability for wireless software updates in a new car.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) ? Florida?Gov. Rick Scott is sharply criticizing Jesse Jackson over comments he made while joining a Capitol protest.

Jackson spent time this week with a group upset with the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial. They?ve refused to leave the Capitol until Scott calls a special session and asks legislators to overhaul the state?s self-defense laws.

Scott so far has refused the request.

The veteran activist criticized the state as the ?Selma of our time? and made a comparison of Scott to former Alabama Gov. George Wallace. Selma, Alabama was the site of civil rights protests and clashes with police during the ?60s.

Scott in a release blasted Jackson?s comments as ?reckless? and ?divisive.? He says that Jackson should apologize for his remarks, which he also called insulting.

The Autobots and Decepticons have descended upon the bankrupt city of Detroit, Michigan and seemed determined to blow it all up.

That's what we're seeing in two new videos from the set of "Transformers 4," Michael Bay's reboot of the series he started, which now stars Mark Wahlberg as a single father/inventor that encounters a new group of transforming robots, once again led by Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.

Click past the jump to see the videos from the set.

The two videos show Detroit doubling for a bombed out Chinese city. The nation will play a big role in the reboot, since some of the financing is coming from there and a reality show was held there to find actresses to star.

Both Bumblebee and the new Autobot Hound can been seen driving through the scene before a series of explosions rock the city and send a car flying.

"Transformers 4" opens in theaters on June 27, 2014.
