Windows 8.1 Preview Bugs: Wired Connection Mistakenly Detected as Metered

Windows 8.1 Preview comes with a new feature that automatically detects metered connections and allows users to decide whether they want to download app updates automatically or not.

Specifically designed to help consumers manage data plans, this new option doesn?t seem to be working right on some Windows 8.1 Preview machines according to some postings on Microsoft?s support forums.

Wired connections are mistakenly detected as metered and all the other settings are disabled in the Control Panel, so users cannot download and install updates for their Metro apps.

?I am on a wired connection and cannot right click on the connection to disable it from being a metered connection. Right clicking on the connection does absolutely nothing. Even in PC Settings under Network there aren't any options to disable the metered connection,? one user wrote.

At this point, there?s no workaround for the issue, so your only option is to wait until an official fix comes out.
